Schilling, Nils

Schilling, Nils, Danish musicologist; b. Copenhagen, April 8, 1910. He studied musicology with Abrahamsen and Larsen at the Univ. of Copenhagen (M. A., 1933), and concurrently took lessons in cello from L. Jensen. He completed his musicological training at the Univ. of Copenhagen (Ph.D., 1950, with the diss. Det 16. og 17. århundredes verdslige danske visesang; publ. in Copenhagen, 1950). He worked at the Copenhagen Music History Museum (1932–53); also wrote music criticism arid served as ed. of Dansk musiktidsskrifl (1943–45) and Dansk årbog for musikforskning (with S. Sorensen; from 1961). In 1950 he joined the faculty of the Univ. of Copenhagen, retiring in 1980.
