Querol (Gavaldá), Miguel

Querol (Gavaldá), Miguel , Spanish musicologist and composer; b. Ulldecona, Tarragona, April 22, 1912. He studied music at the Benedictine Monastery of Monserrat (1926–36) and later in Barcelona with Juan Lamote de Grignon. He continued his training at the univs. of Saragossa (1943), Barcelona (1944–45), and Madrid (Ph.D., 1948, with the diss. La escuela estètica catalana contemporànea; publ. in Madrid, 1953). He was prof. of musicology at the Univ. of Barcelona (1957–70). He publ. La musica en las obras de Cervantes (Barcelona, 1948) and Breve historia de la musica (Madrid, 1955). Among his compositions are sacred music, chamber pieces, and piano works.
