Prenner, Georg
Prenner, Georg , Austrian composer of Slovenian descent; b. Laibach, date unknown; d. St. Pölten, Feb. 4, 1590. He was active as a copyist at the Prague Kapelle of Archduke Maximilian. After his patron became Emperor Maximilian II, he served as court chaplain and almoner. From 1572 to 1578 he was abbot of the St. Dorothea Monastery in Vienna, and then of the Herzogenburg monastery. In 1587 Emperor Rudolf II made him an imperial councillor. Much of Prenner’s extensive output of sacred works appeared in various contemporary anthologies.
