Praupner, Jan (Josef)

Praupner, Jan (Josef) , Bohemian violinist, choirmaster, and composer, brother of Václav (Josef Bartoloměj) Praupner; b. Litoměřice, Jan. 9, 1751; d. Prague, after 1824. He studied music in Litoměřice and philosophy in Prague, where he settled. From about 1778 he was a violinist in the orch. of the Prague Theater. He also was a violinist in the Týn and Crusaders’s churches, and at the Metropolitan Cathedral from about 1780. In 1807 he succeeded his brother as choirmaster at the Crusaders’s Church. Among his works were 2 masses, a Requiem, and a Te Deum.
