Porro, Pierre-Jean

Porro, Pierre-Jean , famous French guitarist; b. Beziers, 1750; d. Montmorency, May 31, 1831. Through his influence the guitar became a fashionable instrument in Paris, where he had a class of pupils. He also was ed. and publ. of Journal de Guitarre (1787–1803). He publ. a guitar method, Tableau méthodique, and composed numerous divertissements, sonatas, and canzonets, for guitar solo and with other instruments. He also composed Collection de musique sacrée for 4 Voices and Organ.
