Perotti, Giovanni Agostino

Perotti, Giovanni Agostino , Italian composer and writer on music, brother of Giovanni Domenico Perotti; b. Vercelli, April 12, 1769; d. Venice, June 28, 1855. He studied with his brother and then with Mattei in Bologna. In 1795 he appeared as a keyboard player at the Viennese court and was active in London (1798–1802) before returning to his homeland. In 1811 he was made maestro primo at San Marco in Venice, and subsequently its maestro di cappella in 1817. He wrote the comic opera La contadina nobile (Pisa, 1795), many instrumental pieces, and music sacred music. He pubi.
