Ots, Charles, South Netherlands teacher and composer; b. Brussels, May 13, 1776; d. there, 1845. He was active as a teacher in Ghent, where he wrote 3 operas: La ruse villageoise (Jan. 2,1796), Jean II ou Charles-Quint dans les murs de Gand (Dec. 18, 1816), and David Teniers (Oct. 28, 1818). Among his other works were instrumental pieces, the cantata La rose enlevée, and sacred music.
