Osten, Eva von der

Osten, Eva von der, German soprano; b. Insel, Aug. 19, 1881; d. Dresden, May 5, 1936. She studied with August Iffert and Marie Sohle in Dresden. She made her operatic debut as Urbain in Les Huguenots in Dresden in 1902, and then was a principal member of the Dresden Court (later State) Opera until 1927, where she created the role of Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier in 1911. She also appeared at London’s Covent Garden (1912–14) and in the U.S. with the German Opera Co. (1923–24). After her retirement from the stage, she became a producer of opera in Dresden. She was married to Friedrich Pl-aschke. Among her other outstanding roles were Kun-dry, Isolde, Senta, Ariadne, and Tosca.
