Nidecki, Tomasz Napoleon
Nidecki, Tomasz Napoleon, Polish conductor and composer; b. Studzianka, Jan. 2, 1807; d. Warsaw, June 5, 1852. He studied with Alojzy Stolpe (piano), Jozef Bielawski (violin), and Wilhelm Würfel (organ) before pursuing training in composition with Elsner at the Warsaw Inst. of Music and Dramatic Art and at the Higher School of Music (1824–27). After completing his studies in Vienna (1828–31), he was conductor of the Leopoldstadt Theater there from 1833 to 1838. He then returned to Warsaw as deputy conductor of the Wielki Theater, where he served as conductor and director from 1840. He wrote 9 operas, instrumental music, and sacred choral works.
