Mildmay, Audrey (b Herstmonceux, 1900; d London, 1953). Eng. soprano. Toured N. Amer. 1927–8 as Polly in The Beggar's Opera. Sang with Carl Rosa and SW. Married John Christie of Glyndebourne, 1931, who built opera house for her and launched famous summer opera fest. 1934. Sang Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), and Norina (Don Pasquale) at Glyndebourne. Retired 1943. Edinburgh Fest. was her idea.
