Meiland, Jakob

Meiland, Jakob, German composer; b. Senftenberg, Lausitz, 1542; d. Hechingen, Dec. 31, 1577. He was a choirboy in the Dresden Hofkapelle, and in 1558 he enrolled at the Univ. of Leipzig. In 1563 joined the Kantorei of the Protestant Margrave Georg Friedrich of Brandenburg-Ansbach, becoming its director in 1564. In 1565 founded its Hofkapelle and served as its first director. He moved to Frankfurt am Main in 1572 and to Celle in 1576. In 1577 he became Kapellmeister to Count Eitel Friedrich von Hohenzollern of Hechingen, but died that same year.
