Leduc (Le Duc), Simon (l’aîné)
Leduc (Le Duc), Simon (l’aîné), French violinist and composer, brother of Pierre (le jeune) Leduc; b. Jan. 15, 1742; d. Paris, Jan. 20, 1777. He studied violin with Gaviniès. He was second violin in the Concert Spirituel (1759–63), making his solo debut there on Sept. 8, 1763. He then was first violin there, but also made appearances as a soloist. With Gaviniès and Gossec, he became a director there (1773). He was a talented composer of orch. and chamber music, and also active as a publisher exclusively of his own works.
