Lalande, Michel-Richard de
Lalande, Michel-Richard de (b Paris, 1657; d Versailles, 1726). Fr. composer and organist, contemporary of Lully. Org. of 4 Paris churches in 1670s. Taught daughters of Louis XIV, becoming Master of King's chamber mus., 1685. Dir. of royal chapel 1714–23, having been sous-maître since 1683, and eventually holding seven court posts. Comp. lavish court ballets and church mus.
