La Guerre, Michel de
La Guerre, Michel de, French organist and composer; b. Paris, 1605 or 1606; d. there (buried), Nov. 13, 1679. He became organist at St. Leu when he was about 14, then was organist at Sainte-Chapelle from 1633 until his death; also was active at the court. His historical importance rests upon his being the composer of the first French comédie en musique, the pastorale Le Triomphe de l’Amour sur bergers et bergères (Louvre, Paris, Jan. 22, 1655), to a libretto by the court poet Charles de Beys; only the text is extant.
