Keldorfer, Viktor (Josef)

Keldorfer, Viktor (Josef), Austrian conductor and composer, father of Robert Keldorfer; b. Salzburg, April 14, 1873; d. Vienna, Jan. 28, 1959. He was a student at the Salzburg Mozarteum. He was chief conductor of the Vienna Männergesang-Verein (1909–21). From 1922 to 1938, and again from 1945 to 1954, he was director of the Vienna Schubertbund; also conducted the Ostdeutscher Sängerbund, which became a model for many Austrian men’s choruses. His works include a Missa solemnis, 2 vols, of Lieder für grosse und kleine Kinder, many men’s choruses, and arrangements of Strauss waltzes for men’s chorus and orch. He also ed. a complete collection of Schubert’s men’s choruses.
