Jancourt, (Louis Marie) Eugène
Jancourt, (Louis Marie) Eugène, notable French bassoonist and pedagogue; b. Château-Thierry, Aisne, Dec. 15, 1815; d. Boulogne-sur-Seine, Jan. 29, 1901. He was a student of François René Gebauer at the Paris Cons., graduating in 1836. He then was active as an orchestral player and as a soloist until 1869. From 1875 to 1891 he taught at the Paris Cons. He made various improvements to the bassoon, and also composed and made arrangements for it. His Grande méthode (Paris, 1847; includes studies and duet sonatas) remains an important work.
