Jacobson, Maurice
Jacobson, Maurice, English composer and music publisher; b. London, Jan. 1, 1896; d. Brighton, Feb. 1, 1976. He studied piano at the Modern School of Music (1913–16) and composition with Stanford and Hoist at the Royal Coll. of Music in London. In 1923 he joined the music publ, firm of J. Curwen & Sons as a music reader; in 1933, was made its director and later its chairman (1950–72). In 1971 he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. He composed a ballet, David (1935), the cantatas The Lady of Shalott (1940) and The Hound of Heaven (1953), many short instrumental pieces, chamber music, and songs.
