Hymnus Paradisi
Hymnus Paradisi (Hymn of Paradise). Requiem by Howells for sop., ten., ch., orch., to texts selected by him from Latin Mass for the Dead, Psalm 23, Psalm 121, the Burial Service, and the Salisbury Diurnal (trans. G. H. Palmer). Comp. 1938 in memory of his son, but not released for perf. until 1950 (Gloucester Fest.). Some of the themes in Hymnus Paradisi were first employed in Howells's Requiem for unacc. ch., comp. in 1936. The Requiem was reassembled from MS and perf. in 1980.
