Hus-Desforges, Pierre Louis

Hus-Desforges, Pierre Louis, French cellist, conductor, and composer; b. Toulon, March 14, 1773; d. Pont-le-Voy, near Blois, Jan. 20, 1838. He was a cellist in the Lyons Grand Théâtre orch. before pursuing studies with J.-B. Janson at the Paris Cons. From 1800 to about 1810 he was director of the orch. of the Théâtre-Français in St. Petersburg, and then settled in Paris as a cellist and conductor in various theater orchs. Under the name Citoyen Desforges, he publ, the song “L’Autel de sa patrie” (Paris, 1798); he also wrote a Sinfonia Concertante with Violin and Cello obbligato and a String Quartet. He publ. A Méthode de violoncelle à Vusage des commençants (Paris, 1828).
