Hove, Joachim van den

Hove, Joachim van den, South Netherlands lutenist, composer, and intabulator; b. Antwerp, 1567; d. The Hague, 1620. He went to Leiden in 1594, where he acquired a notable reputation as a lutenist and lute teacher. After extensive travels, he settled in The Hague in 1615-16, where he died in poverty. Hove was a distinguished composer of lute music. In addition to his own works represented in the 22 Praeludia testudinis (Leiden, 1616), he also prepared collections of works by Italian composers in Florida (Utrecht, 1601) and Delitcae musicae (Utrecht, 1612; ed. by H. Monkmeyer, Hofheim an Taunus, 1967).
