Hopkins, John Henry, American clergyman and writer of hymn tunes; b. Pittsburgh, Oct. 28, 1820; d. Hudson, N.Y, Aug. 13, 1891. He studied at schools of divinity and served as a deacon in several churches. His Christmas carol We Three Kings of Orient Are is a perennial favorite. He publ, a collection, Carols, Hymns and Songs (1862).
