Hentschel, Franz

Hentschel, Franz, German conductor and composer; b. Berlin, Nov. 6, 1814; d. there, May 11, 1889. He studied with A. W. Bach. After conducting theater orchs. in provincial towns, he settled in Berlin as a music teacher. He wrote an opera, Die Hexenreise, and numerous marches for military band.
