Henkel, (Johann) Michael
Henkel, (Johann) Michael, German organist, pedagogue, and composer, father of Heinrich Henkel; b. Fulda, June 18, 1780; d. there, March 4, 1851. He began his music training in Fulda, and then studied organ and thoroughbass with J. G. Vierling in Schmal-kalden. After returning to Fulda, he was Episcopal court violinist (1800–03), and then served as cantor at the Cathedral and at the town parish church from 1804; he also was active as a teacher (1805–18). He publ, a chorale book for the Fulda diocese (1804) and songs for school use. His other works included organ pieces, chamber music, and songs.
