Hekster, Walter

Hekster, Walter, Dutch clarinetist, teacher, and composer; b. Amsterdam, March 29, 1937. He studied clarinet and composition at the Amsterdam Cons, (graduated, 1961). After playing clarinet in the Conn. Sym. Orch. (1962–65), he studied with Sessions at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood (summer, 1966). He taught clarinet and composition at Brandon Univ. in Canada (1965–71), and then at the conservatories in Utrecht and Arnhem.
