Hainl, François

Hainl, François, French cellist, conductor, and composer; b. Issoire, Nov. 16, 1807;d. Paris, June 2, 1873. He was a pupil of Norblin at the Paris Cons., graduating with the premier prix in cello in 1830. After conducting at the Lyons Grand Théâtre (1841–63), he returned to Paris and conducted at the Opéra (1863–72), where he led the premieres of Meyerbeer’s L’africaine (1865), Verdi’s Don Carlos (1867), and Thomas’s Hamlet (1868). He also was conductor of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire (1863–72). He composed several cello pieces and publ, the vol. De la musique à Lyons depuis 1713 jusqu’à 1852.
