Gyrowetz, Adalbert
Gyrowetz, Adalbert [ Jirovec, Vojtěch] (b Budějovice, 1763; d Vienna, 1850). Bohemian composer and conductor. His work was admired by Mozart in Vienna in 1785. Was of much assistance to Haydn, whom he idolized, during his two visits to Eng. Kapellmeister and Intendant of Vienna court ths. 1804–31. Pallbearer at Beethoven's funeral, 1827. Comp. 30 operas (incl. Hans Sachs, 1833), 25 ballets, 40 syms., 45 str. qts., pf. sonatas, etc.
