Golubev, Evgeny

Golubev, Evgeny, Russian composer and pedagogue; b. Moscow, Feb. 16, 1910; d. there, Dec. 25, 1988. He studied composition with Miaskovsky at the Moscow Cons., graduating in 1936. He joined the faculty of his alma mater upon graduation and taught special courses in polyphonic composition. Several well-known Soviet composers were his students, among them Khrennikov, Eshpai, and Schnittke.

BALLET: Odysseus (1965). ORCH.: 7 syms. (1933, 1937, 1942, 1947, I960, 1966, 1972); 3 piano concertos (1944,1948,1956); Cello Concerto (1958); Viola Concerto (1962); Violin Concerto (1970). CHAMBER: 19 string quartets; 2 string quintets; 10 piano sonatas. VOCAL: 2 oratorios: Return of the Sun (1936) and Heroes Are Immortal (1946); many choruses.
