Gilels, Elizabeta
Gilels, Elizabeta, Russian violinist, sister of Emil (Grigorievich) Gilels; b. Odessa, Sept. 30, 1919. She studied with Stoliarsky at his school for gifted youths in Odessa and later graduated from the Moscow Cons., where she took lessons from A. Yampolsky. She received 3rd place in the Ysaye Competition (Brussels, 1937); taught at the Moscow Cons, (from 1967). She played duets with her husband, Leonid Kogan; their son, Pavel Kogan, was also a talented violinist.
