Gherardeschi, Filippo Maria
Gherardeschi, Filippo Maria, Italian composer; b. Pistola, 1738; d. Pisa, 1808. He was a student in Bologna of Padre Martini. He was made organist at Livorno Cathedral in 1761, and in 1763 he became maestro di cappella in Voltera. After serving as organist at Pisa Cathedral, he was maestro di cappella at Pistoia Cathedral and then at the Chiesa Conventuale dei Cavalieri di S. Stefano in Pisa from about 1766 until his death. From about 1768 until 1803 he also was director of music to the Grand Duke of Tuscany. He composed 7 operas, many works for the church, and chamber music.
