Fleischer-Edel, Katharina

Fleischer-Edel, Katharina, German soprano; b.Muhlheim an der Ruhr, Sept. 27, 1873; d. Dresden, July 18, 1928. She was a pupil of August Iffert at the Dresden Don. In 1893 she made her debut in a concert in Dresden, and then was a member of the Court Opera there (1894–97). From 1899 to 1914 she was a principal member of the Hamburg Opera. She also made guest appearances at the Bayreuth Festivals (1904–08), at London’s Covent Garden (1905–07), and at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. (debut as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser, Nov. 30, 1906). She was principally known for her Wagnerian roles.
