Eyken (Eijken), Jan Albert van

Eyken (Eijken), Jan Albert van, Dutch organist, teacher, and composer; b. Amersfoort, April 26, 1823;d. Elberfeld, Sept. 24, 1868. He studied at the Leipzig Cons., and afterward at Dresden with Schneider. In 1848, he became organist of the Remonstrantenkerk in Amsterdam; in 1853, of the Zuyderkerk, and teacher at the music school in Rotterdam; in 1854, he became organist at Elberfeld. His organ pieces (150 chorales with introductions, 25 preludes, a toccata and fugue on B-A-C-H, 3 sonatas, variations, transcriptions, etc.) are well and favorably known.
