double bar
double bar. The double perpendicular line marking the end of a comp. or of some section thereof. (It may or may not coincide with a single bar line and if it does not do so has no rhythmic function.) Usually reinforced when they mark the end of the work. With dots on either side of the lines they indicate that the previous or subsequent section is to be repeated.
