Dobrzynski, Ignacy Felix

Dobrzynski, Ignacy Felix, Polish pianist and

composer; b. Romanov, Volhynia, Feb. 15, 1807; d. Warsaw, Oct. 10, 1867. The son of composer Ignacy Dobrzynski (b. Warsaw, Feb. 2, 1779; d. there, Aug. 16, 1841), he was taught by his father, then, being a fellow pupil and close friend of Chopin, by Chopin’s teacher Eisner. On subsequent pianistic tours to Leipzig, Dresden, and Berlin (1845–47), he had great success. For a time he directed opéra in Warsaw, where he finally settled. He wrote an opéra, Monbar or The Filibuster (1838; Warsaw, Jan. 10, 1863); Symphonie caracteristique; String Sextet; two string quintets; three string quartets; Piano Trio; Violin Sonata; a nocturne for Violin and Piano, Les Larmes; mazurkas for piano; songs. His son Bronislaw Dobrzynski publ. a monograph on him (Warsaw, 1893).
