Carr, Edwin (James Nairn) (b Auckland, 1926; d Waiheke Island, 2003). NZ composer. Won 1st prize at Auckland Fest. 1950 with ov. Mardi Gras and won Harriet Cohen int. mus. award 1967. Became serialist after 1961 and taught in Suffolk, returning to NZ 1970. Comps. incl. opera, ballet, sym. for str., pf. conc., and chamber and vocal mus.
