Bryne, Albert or Albertus
Bryne, Albert or Albertus, English organist and composer; b. probably in London, c. 1621; d. Westminster, 1671. He was a pupil of John Tomkins, whom he succeeded as organist at St. Paul’s Cathedral in 1638. In 1649 he lost his position with the coming of the Commonwealth, but regained it at the Restoration in 1660. From 1666 to 1668 he was organist at Westminster Abbey. He was a distinguished composer of harpsichord suites; he also wrote anthems and services.
