Anosov, Nikolai

Anosov, Nikolai, Russian conductor, pedagogue, and composer, father of Gennadi Rozhdestvensky; b. Borisoglebsk, Feb. 18, 1900; d. Moscow, Dec. 2, 1962. He studied piano and composition at the Moscow Cons, (graduated, 1943), where he later taught. He also was a conductor with the Moscow Sym. Orch., and appeared as a guest conductor throughout Russia and abroad. Anosov wrote a textbook on reading orch. scores, and also composed a Piano Concertino and a Woodwind Quartet. He was married to the soprano Natalia Rozhdestvenskaya, and their son assumed his mother’s maiden name.
