Alexeev, Dmitri

Alexeev, Dmitri, talented Russian pianist; b. Moscow, Aug. 10, 1947. He entered Moscow’s Central Music School at the age of 6, and then studied with Bashkirov in Moscow, winning 2nd prize at the Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris (1969) and becoming the first Russian pianist to win 1st prize at the Leeds Competition (1975). He subsequently gave recitals in Europe, Japan, and Australia. He made his American debut as a soloist with the Chicago Sym. Orch. in 1976, and in 1978 appeared at Carnegie Hall in N.Y. He further played duo-piano recitals with his wife, Tatiana Sarkissova. As a soloist, he is notable in the Romantic piano repertoire.
