The Reception ★★½ 2005
Jeannette, a wealthy, alcoholic Frenchwoman, lives with African American gay painter, Martin, under sadly codependent circumstances. Sierra, her estranged daughter, shows up one winter day with her new husband, coincidently also African Ameri can, to collect on a promised inheritance. What unfolds is a scenario of shifting alliances that shadow the entanglement of racial prejudice, sexual orientation and addiction. Shooting in eight days on a $5,000 budget, Young presents an admirable effort. 75m/C DVD . US Pamela Stewart, Darien SillsEvans, Wayne Lamont Sims, Margaret Burkwit; D: John G. Young; W: John G. Young; C: Derek Wiesehahn.
