Mr. 3000 ★★½ 2004 (PG-13)

Lackluster sports comedy follows egotistical Milwaukee Brewers star Stan Ross (Mac), who abruptly quit the team as soon as he got his 3,000 hit. His comfy retirement of 10 years is interrupted when an old record-keeping error is corrected, revealing that Stan only has 2,997 career hits. So, the 47-year-old decides to come back long enough to get those missing hits. He must contend with resentful younger teammates, numerous strikeouts, the accomanying ridicule, and Mo, his beautiful former flame who's now a reporter for ESPN covering his comeback. Mac and Bassett have a lot of charm together but much of the film is predictable, and the on-field action lacks any urgency. 104m/C VHS, DVD .
