The Monster 1925
The Monster ★★★ 1925
This silent horror film has all the elements that would become genre standards. Mad scientist Dr. Ziska (Chaney), working in an asylum filled with lunatics, abducts strangers to use in his fiendish experiments to bring the dead back to life. There's the obligatory dungeon and even a lovely heroine (Olmsted) that needs rescuing. Great atmosphere and Chaney's usual spine-tingling performance. Based on the play by Crane Wilbur. 86m/B VHS . Lon Chaney Sr., Gertrude (Olmstead) Olmsted, Johnny Arthur, Charles Sellon, Walter James, Hallam Cooley; D: Roland West; W: Albert Kenyon, Willard Mack; C: Hal Mohr.
