Love & Sex ★★½ 2000

Famke Janssen shines in her role as Kate, a manic L.A. magazine writer who nearly gets fired due to her inability to write about good relationships because she hasn't had many. She begins to remember fondly her relationship with Adam (Favreau), a doughy artist whose fast talk made up for his slow looks. Their relationship is traced from its initial spark to its last gasp, when Adam breaks up with Kate due to a feeling of complacency. Kate then attempts to make Adam jealous by dating a string of prettyboy losers, including his favorite actor. Kate becomes increasingly depressed and Adam becomes increasingly obsessed, setting the stage for the inevitable happy ending. Good performances and chemistry between the lead actors saves this indie effort from feeling like a really long sitcom episode. 82m/C VHS, DVD . Famke Janssen, Jon Favreau, Noah Emmerich, Ann Magnuson, Cheri Oteri, Josh Hopkins, Robert Knepper, Vincent Ventresca; D: Valerie Breiman; W: Valerie Breiman; C: Adam Kane.
