The Long, Hot Summer ★★★½ 1986
TV version of the William Faulkner story, “The Hamlet,” about a drifter taken under a Southern patriarch's wing. He's bribed into courting the man's unmarried daughter. Wonderful performances from the entire cast, especially Ivey and surprisingly, Johnson. Remake of the 1958 film with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward that is on par with the original. 172m/C VHS . Don Johnson, Cybill Shepherd, Judith Ivey, Jason Robards Jr., Ava Gardner, William Russ, Wings Hauser, William Forsythe, Albert Hall; D: Stuart Cooper; M: Charles Bernstein. TV
