The Iron Horse ★★★ 1924

Davy Brandon is a frontiersman and scout who learned about western trails from his surveyor father. His childhood sweetheart Miriam is traveling with her fiance Jesson, who is working on the route for the new transcontinental railway. Davy says he knows a shortcut but a jealous Jesson (who's been bribed by land speculators) tries to kill him. There's lots more action (and Abraham Lincoln!) before the railroad is finished and the sweethearts reunited. Ford's epic western was filmed on location and was his first major studio success. 119m/B DVD . George O'Brien, Madge Bellamy, Cyril Chadwick, Fred Kohler Jr., Charles Edward Bull, Gladys Hullette; D: John Ford; W: Charles Kenyon, John Russell, Charles Denton; C: George Schneiderman.
