The Hill ★★½ 1965

British soldiers in a WWII North African military prison are subjected to the brutal discipline of the sadistic Staff Sgt. Williams (Hendry). One of the harshest punishments is the “Hill” a man-made sand wall that the men must climb in full gear. When one of the men dies, it provokes a confrontation between the prisoners, led by Connery, and Williams and his C.O. (Andrews). Harrowing, disturbing look at British Army life and discipline excels on the strength of taut script and great work by the fine cast. 121m/B VHS, DVD . GB Sean Connery, Harry Andrews, Ian Hendry, Ian Bannen, Ossie Davis, Alfred Lynch, Jack Watson, Roy Kinnear, Michael Redgrave, Norman Bird, Neil McCarthy, Howard Goorney, Tony Caunter; D: Sidney Lumet; W: Ray Rigby, R.S.
