G.I. Jane ★★½ In Pursuit of Honor; Navy Cross 1997 (R)

Moore is buffed, bold and bald in this modern day fable of the first female to become a Navy SEAL. As Jordan O'Neil, Moore endures grueling training exercises and sexist remarks from male collegues that are tortuous for her, but enjoyable for those who sat through Moore's three previous films. Impressive supporting cast, including Mortensen as the vicious and misogynist master chief and Bancroft as a fiesty senator with a secret political agenda, pick things up when the story flags in the middle. The beginning holds the most interest, but the movie's length encourages improbable plot points. Scott shows he still knows how to make a movie look great, even if the writing doesn't quite measure up. 124m/C VHS, DVD, Bluray Disc . Demi Moore, Viggo Mortensen, Anne Bancroft, Jason Beghe, Scott Wilson, Morris Chestnut, Lucinda Jenney, James (Jim) Caviezel; D: Ridley Scott; W: David N. Twohy, Danielle Alexandra; C: Hugh Johnson; M: Trevor Jones. Golden Raspberries ‘97: Worst Actress (Moore).
