The Ghost Breakers ★★★ 1940

As a followup to the Hope/Goddard 1939 comedy thriller “The Cat and the Canary,” this spooky comedy was even better. Remade in 1953 as “Scared Stiff” with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Based on the play by Paul Dickey and Charles Goddard. 83m/B VHS, DVD . Bob Hope, Paulette Goddard, Richard Carlson, Paul Lukas, Willie Best, Pedro de Cordoba, Noble Johnson, Anthony Quinn; D: George Marshall; W: Walter DeLeon; C: Charles B(ryant) Lang Jr.
