Getting Gertie's Garter ★★½ 1945

Light romantic farce that hinges on the fact the befuddled lead doesn't dare mention a lady's undergarment in public. (Yes, life was once like that.) Ken (O'Keefe) has just obtained a swell promotion and is happily married to Patty (Ryan). But in his reckless youth, he gave former flame Gertie (McDonald) a bejeweled garter as a token of his affections. Now, Gertie is about to get married to Ken's friend Ted (Sullivan) and that darn garter is wantd by the District Attorney as evidence in a robbery. Ken needs to quietly retrieve the garter before Patty, Ted, the D.A., and Ken's stuffy board of directors gets wind of the scandalous trinket. Lots of standard farce moments such as hiding in closets and shimmying down drainpipes. 72m/B VHS, DVD . Dennis O'Keefe, Marie McDonald, Barry Sullivan, Binnie Barnes, Sheila Ryan, J. Carrol Naish, Jerome Cowan; D: Allan Dwan; W: Allan Dwan, Karen DeWolf; C: Charles Lawton Jr.
