On the Edge 2000
On the Edge ★★½ 2000 (R)
Troubled 19-year-old Jonathan Breech (Murphy) deals with his depression over his father's death by stealing a car and driving it over a cliff. Surviving with very minor injuries, Jonathan is faced with prison or spending time in a mental institution. He chooses the latter, where he meets his caring therapist, Dr. Figure (Rea), and some fellow patients to bond with—Rachel (Vessey) and Toby (Jackson). Much teen angst is explored before the resolution and the material may not be fresh but it is heartfelt. 86m/C VHS, DVD . IR Cillian Murphy, Tricia Vessey, Jonathan Jackson, Stephen Rea; D: John Carney; W: Daniel James, John Carney; C: Eric Alan Edwards.
