The Deal ★★ 2005 (R)

It's the near future, the U.S. is at war with the 'Confederation of Arab States' and gas is $6 a gallon and rising. A Wall Street hotshot, Tom Grover (Slater), is called in to help seal a $20-billion deal with a Russian oil conglomerate called Black Star which is most likely a Russian Mafia 'oil-laundering' operation. Young Harvard grad, and new hire (Blair) acts as Grover's investigative partner and lust interest. Early portions of Epstein's script contain copious amounts of intriguing industrial data but once Angie Harmon enters the scene with her laughable Russian accent it becomes a corporate espionage thriller spoof. 107m/C DVD . US Christian Slater, Selma Blair, John Heard, Angie Harmon, Kevin Tighe, Francoise Yip, Colm Feore, Robert Loggia, Philip Granger, Jim Thorburn, Ruth Epstein; D: Harvey Kahn; C: Adam Sliwinski; M: Christopher Lennertz.
