Cats Don't Dance ★★ 1997 (G)

Animated musical/comedy finds Danny (Bakula) a hoofer wanna-be trying to break into ’30s Hollywood. Only problem is that he's a cat and can't understand why he only gets parts playing animals. He gets into trouble with bratty human star Darla Dimple (Peldon) and nearly sees his chance at a career vanish. Combines “Singin' in the Rain” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” with some showbiz cynicism from “The Player” to create a cartoon that will most likely sail over the heads of its target audience. Most of the time, as in the old Warner Bros. classics, that's a good thing. Not in this case, however. 77m/C VHS, DVD. D: Mark Dindal; W: Cliff Ruby, Roberts Gannaway, Elana Lesser, Theresa Pettengill; M: Steve Goldstein, Randy Newman; V: Scott Bakula, Jasmine Guy, Ashley Peldon, Kathy Najimy, John Rhys-Davies, George Kennedy, Rene Auberjonois, Hal Holbrook, Don Knotts, Frank Welker, David Johansen, Natalie Cole.
